Netflix partners with Microsoft to create ad-supported subscription tier

For a few months it had been mentioned that Netflix will have a new level of subscriptions, one in which they will introduce advertising so that it is somewhat cheaper. And now, it is confirmed that this type of subscription is going to be a reality, but that is not all, since it has allied with Microsoft to achieve this step forward.

The news comes from a tweet from Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft Corporation. The company will be Netflix's technology and sales partner to help power its first ad-supported subscription offering, this information was strengthened by an official blog post to make it official.

We are delighted that Netflix has selected Microsoft as its ad technology and sales partner. We want publishers to have more long-term viable ad monetization platforms, so more people can access the content they love wherever they are.

Netflix Here's what Greg Peters, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Product Officer of Netflix has to say:

It's very early and we have a lot to solve. But our long-term goal is clear. More choice for consumers and a better-than-linear premium TV brand experience for advertisers. We are excited to work with Microsoft as we bring this new service to life.

Microsoft has the proven ability to support all of our advertising needs as we build a new ad-supported offering together. More importantly, it offered the flexibility to innovate over time on both the technology and sales sides, as well as strong privacy protections for our members.

It is not yet confirmed when the new subscription will be available.
